What are your methods for raising chicken? Our chickens are picked up directly from the hatchery and not shipped. This allows them to not have the added stress in the first few days of life and we find, results in an overall healthier flock. They are all given extra vitamins and apple cider vinegar in their water. They are raised on pasture and moved to new grass daily. They are not ever locked in a crowded area but rather have a platform to hide from aerial predators that they can always get out of and are protected from other predators by an electric poultry net. They are often ran behind our cattle so they can get extra goodies in the manure too. To supplement the bugs and grass they consume, we provide fermented soy free and corn free organic feed to ensure what they consume is clean so that we can ensure that what you consume is clean.
-
Do you use antibiotics? Fillers? We do not use any antibiotics, vaccines, food dyes, bleach, or fillers with our birds. We depend on healthy diets and lifestyles so that our birds have strong and healthy immune systems. We believe nature has everything we need already, we just need to utilize it well. On the contrary, conventionally raised chickens are often treated with antibiotics, vaccines, dipped in bleach when processing, and injected with water and bovine fluid to increase weight when selling.
-
How does your chicken help improve gut health?Higher Omega-3 fatty acids Lower Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio More Unsaturated fats Richer in vitamins A,D, and E All of these are essential for the adsorption of fat soluble vitamins, improving and maintaining a balanced gut microbiome and reducing inflammation.
-
What type of agricultural practices do you use?We do not use any pesticides or herbicides. We raise a diverse collection of animals on the pasture and each gets rotated so they are on fresh grass continuously. We often run our birds behind our cattle. This helps give the birds more diversity in their diet and keeps the fly load down for the cattle. Chickens are also great at spreading manure for us! We desire to be good stewards of the land and animals God has graced us with and to leave it better each year than it was the year before.
-
How does your chicken compare to grocery store chicken nutritionally?Pasture-raised poultry and conventional poultry differ significantly in their nutritional profiles. Key differences include: Fat content: Pasture-raised poultry contains 21% less fat and 30% less saturated fat compared to conventional poultry, as demonstrated by Barb Groski’s study (1999). Vitamin A: Pasture-raised poultry contains significantly more vitamin A than conventional poultry, as shown by Groski’s study and others. Dietary diversity: Pasture-raised poultry forages outdoors, consuming a varied diet that includes insects, worms, bugs, and grasses, which boosts their nutrient density. In contrast, conventional poultry are fed a standardized diet that lacks this diversity. Antioxidant profile: A study on egg yolks from pasture-raised hens found no significant differences in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) concentration compared to conventional eggs. However, pasture-raised eggs may still have a more favorable fatty acid profile due to the hens’ diet. Fully organic diet: our poultry is raised on organic pasture and supplemented with soy free and corn free organic and fermented feed. Many pasture raised birds are still fed grains treated with pesticides and/or GMO. Key benefits of organic fed pasture-raised poultry: Higher nutrient density due to varied diet and foraging habits Lower fat and saturated fat content Higher vitamin A content Absence of hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides in the meat Better overall health and welfare of the animals
